Volunteers Make It Work

Student Volunteers paint the Youth ChapelCol. 3:23-24  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV)

Volunteers make church ministry work.  As FCCO grows and reaches more and more people for Jesus, our number of volunteers must grow too.  Has God placed a desire on your heart to give of your time serving Him here at FCCO?  There are countless ways to get involved, occasionally, regularly, even frequently.

Students Painting the ChapelFCCO employs a relatively small number of full-time and part-time ministry leaders and administrative staff when compared to the overall size of our ministry.  These leaders and staffers coach, support, and work alongside our volunteers, who complete the bulk of the ministry work each week.  Here’s a peek at the volunteering that goes on here on Sunday:

-Our worship and tech teams rehearse, then lead worship for 3 worship services
-Welcome desk volunteers provide information to members, attendees, and guests
-Usher teams greet and seat our congregation for each worship service
-Teams brew over 20 pots of coffee for the Atrium and classrooms
-Nursery workers provide childcare for children aged infant through 4 years old at each worship service
-Children’s church volunteers lead children aged K through 4th Grade in a time of worship
-Great Adventure shepherds and assistants teach children aged K through 4th
-Club 56 volunteers teach children in Grade 5 and 6
-Student ministry volunteers lead Junior and Senior High students through a time of worship, fellowship, and teaching
-Adult small group and medium sized group leaders lead groups in times of teaching, fellowship, and going deeper in their faith
-Kitchen volunteers prepare snacks for the Atrium
-Volunteers prepare and serve communion on communion Sundays
-Volunteers collect our weekly offering each Sunday

Did I leave anyone out?  I hope not.  And that’s just what happens on Sunday!

Travis Place paintingThere are six other days of the week blessed by volunteers.  Volunteers prepare meals for Family Night, Small Group Night, and Dinner Bell.  Volunteers lead small groups, adult classes, youth groups, and groups for children on Family Night and Small Group Night.  Volunteers serve on our Leadership Council, coach ministry leaders, serve on our Global Outreach Team, go on mission trips, mentor students, help produce Vacation Bible School, mow our ball fields, weed our planting beds, paint our buildings, go to summer youth camp as counselors, and the list grows on…

Volunteers are at the heart of this ministry, sacrificially giving of their time, energy, and God given gifts and talents to reach people for Jesus.  Wondering how you can get involved in a ministry at FCCO?  Ask a volunteer!  You’re probably sitting next to one.
