Sermon: “Dear Pharisees and Prodigals” from Dan Mitchum

“Prison saved my life.” These are the words of a young man named Fernando. Before serving a seven-year sentence, he hadn’t given Jesus a second thought. But once behind bars, he realized his life was on the wrong track. He allowed worldly distractions and addictions to take him captive until he was imprisoned not only spiritually, but physically as well. “Immersing myself in prayer and Scripture and Bible studies as I have these last several years has filled both my heart and my head with a much greater awareness and appreciation of the almighty presence in my life in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Simply put, had I not come to prison, I would neither possess nor enjoy the deep, intrinsic, and altogether all-important relationship that I now do with my Lord and Savior.” Galatians 3:15-25 says we’ve all been imprisoned by the law—the righteous law of God. It’s simply impossible for us to keep God’s law perfectly, and as a result, we deserve eternal judgment. But the law doesn’t get the last word in our lives. We can allow it to drive us to Jesus. Join us as we celebrate how the law leads us to Christ.
