No Other Gospel
Con artists have been around for centuries, but few have surpassed George Parker. The New Yorker specialized in selling landmarks to foreigners in the 1800s. He ‘sold’ the Statue of Liberty, Grant’s Tomb, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but the Brooklyn Bridge was his favorite con. Parker would hang around Ellis Island, where many immigrant boats arrived, ingratiating himself with foreigners. Eventually, he’d give his ‘new friends’ a sales pitch, dazzle them with official-looking forged documents, and convince them they could control access to the Brooklyn Bridge and other landmarks. Over the years, police removed several of his victims from the bridge as they tried to install toll booths. As good a liar as George Parker was, he was no match for the false teachers attempting to con the Christians in the Galatian churches. They weren’t selling a bridge; they were enticing believers to buy into another gospel, which was no gospel at all. The devil is still trying to deceive us to this day. How can we stay true to the gospel of Jesus Christ? The answer is found in Galatians 1:6-10. Join us tomorrow as Paul teaches us to safeguard against spiritual scams.
