From Slavery to Sonship
What is a Christian? Theologian J.I. Packer answered that question by stating, “The richest answer I know is that a Christian is one who has God as Father.” This is an amazing truth! In giving His life for us, Jesus did more than make us right with God. He also gave us the right to become God’s adopted children in Christ. In justification, the picture is legal; God pronounces us “not guilty.” But in adoption, God not only declares us “not guilty,” but He also gets up off the bench, comes down to where we are, removes our chains, and says, “Come home with Me as My child.” Packer says, “To be right with God the Judge is a great thing, but to be loved and cared for by God the Father is greater.” Join us as we celebrate the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! [1 John 3:1]
