Sermon: “Josiah: The Boy Who Became King” from Dan Mitchum

Marc Swenson - August 18, 2024

The Rise and Fall of Uzziah

“False starts, cramping, poor training, falling… these are things that keep athletes from finishing their race. As we study the kings of Israel, we find few who finish well. This week, we’ll meet yet another king who started off with strength but got tripped up and never recovered. He’ll teach us some important lessons of what not to do that will help us run strong to the finish line in our own spiritual journey. Join us Sunday as we learn from King Uzziah!

We’ll spend August studying the lives of five of Israel’s kings. Their stories are fascinating and unforgettable. We’ll watch as Joash’s own grandmother attempts to assassinate him. We’ll see King Saul’s kingdom slip away simply for losing his patience. We’ll watch 80 courageous priests confront King Uzziah for defiling God’s Temple. We’ll learn why Manasseh was not only the wickedest king in Israel but in the whole world. And we’ll celebrate the coronation of eight-year-old Josiah—the only truly good king of the bunch. Whether good or bad, these kings pale in comparison to King Jesus, who we'll come back to week after week. God has much to teach us from each of them. Join us for this exciting and life-changing study of God’s Word.
