Sandy Ridge Cleanup

June 6 & 13, 9am – 3pm

FCCO is partnering with the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund for a neighborhood cleanup at Sandy Ridge in Ossipee. This initiative reflects one of the key priorities identified in our congregational survey: to renew and revitalize the community around us by building meaningful partnerships with organizations that share this vision and commitment. Together, we have an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors.

This project is about more than cleanup—it’s about restoring dignity, improving living conditions, and helping build a stronger, more sustainable community. Just as importantly, this work connects directly to the need for affordable housing in our region. Improving these homes supports pathways for individuals and families who are currently unhoused, couch surfing, or struggling to find stable, affordable living options.

Over time, this neighborhood has accumulated debris for a variety of reasons. Some residents have limited physical ability, others lack the resources for proper disposal or transportation, and in some cases, the accumulation began before they moved in. Whatever the circumstances, our posture is not judgment, but support. We want to come alongside residents to help restore their spaces to a healthier condition and, when possible, share practical tools for long-term upkeep.

The appearance of the community also plays a critical role in its future. At only 50% occupancy, the neighborhood needs to be an attractive and welcoming place for new residents and potential investors so that additional homes can be filled. A cleaner, more cared-for environment helps create that opportunity.

Finally, if homes remain unoccupied, lot rent is likely to continue increasing over time—something that places additional strain on residents, many of whom are already living on fixed or limited incomes. Creating a stable, thriving community helps protect long-term affordability.

Volunteer Opportunities

Dates: Saturday, June 6 & Saturday, June 13
(Please note, Dave Gleason’s Celebration of Life is also on June 6 at 11:00 am.)

Times: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Volunteer Training: All volunteers should plan to attend a training provided by the NH Community Loan Fund at FCCO on Sunday, May 24, after the second service (11:45am).

We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:

  • Trash Pickup:
Assist with collecting and moving debris to designated pickup areas. In most cases, trash will already be brought to the edge of driveways unless residents have specifically requested help. For safety reasons, volunteers will only enter lots where assistance has been requested in advance.
  • Information Sharing Team:
Help communicate important information about ROC living, including community bylaws, expectations, and resources. This role includes a one-hour training session. Volunteers should be able to engage in supportive conversations and help translate written materials into clear, accessible language for residents.
  • Food Prep & Hospitality:
Assist with preparing, setting up, and/or coordinating meals for volunteers and community members. Food may be catered, donated by local partners, or prepared on-site, depending on availability.
  • Community Building Cleanout:
Help remove old materials such as drywall, wood, furniture, and other debris. Additional tasks include cleaning floors, walls, and bathrooms, and preparing the space for renewal. Day one will focus on clearing and cleaning; day two will shift toward refreshing the space with paint, furniture placement, and creative design.
  • Outdoor Beautification / Gardening:
Use gardening skills to clear overgrown areas and prepare spaces for flowers and landscaping that will help restore beauty and pride to the community.

Please note, photos and/or videos may be taken at FCCO events and used in emails, our website, and social media. Any event that is confidential by nature will never be photographed. Please see our Photo Policy for more information.

On Sunday, March 22, there will be one 9:00 service only. If you aren't able to join us in person, the service will be streamed live at 9:00 at www.firstossipee.org/live.
