CloseAfter serving 26 years for a fatal stabbing, Randall Lee Church found himself overwhelmed by the changes in the outside world. So, he poured gasoline through a window of an empty house and tossed in flaming rags and paper towels. Then he went to a restaurant where he ordered a meal he couldn’t pay for. When it was time to pay the bill, Church asked the server to call the police, stating he wanted to return to prison, or as he called it, “home.” “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” [Galatians 5:1]. In other words, “Christ has set us free—now stay free!” Paul had to tell us this because he knew we all tend to return to our old way of life—to life before Jesus emancipated us from slavery to the law, sin, and shame. Join us as we celebrate our freedom in Christ.
