Sermon: “Staying Pure in an Impure World” from Dan Mitchum

Dan Mitchum - August 27, 2023

Staying Pure in an Impure World

The Berkeley Pit is a former open-pit copper mine in Butte, Montana. It’s so deep it could easily hold an eighty-story skyscraper. It’s beautiful, but it has one major problem. It’s full of toxic water. All 26 billion gallons are laden with heavy metals and dangerous chemicals leaching from the rock. There’s a mist and a fog that sometimes rises from the lake, leaving nearby residents to wonder what will happen to them if they breathe the toxic air. And they wonder how far the deadly sediment has seeped into the soil of the surrounding areas. We’re living in a contaminated culture. Our world has lost its way and, in rejecting God, has become a dangerous and immoral place. So, how are we, as followers of Jesus, to keep ourselves clean? How can we stay spiritually healthy so we can continue to serve God and share the Good News with those around us? Jesus will teach us how to stay pure in an impure world. Please join us as we study God’s Word together.
