Invest Boldly and Give Generously
After launching Apple Computer in 1976, co-founder Ron Wayne made what turned out to be the costliest cash-out of his life. Twelve days after joining Apple for a 10 percent stake in the startup, he sold it for $800. Not a bad short-term profit at the time, but if he owned that Apple stock today, it would be worth over $200 billion. In the 1970s, Ross Perot passed on an offer to buy Microsoft. Perot was convinced the company wasn’t worth the 60-million-dollar purchase price. He was wrong. Had he bought, his holding today would be worth around $750 billion. Tomorrow, from Ecclesiastes 11:1-6, Solomon will teach us the secrets of investing in the kingdom of God. He’ll urge us to give generously to the only investment that can never fail. Why? Because God is the one who guarantees everything given to the work of the gospel will bear dividends beyond our wildest dreams.

This week we start a new sermon series on one of the most puzzling books of the Bible. Ecclesiastes was written by a man searching for the secret of life. Hoping to find the answer, he experimented with everything life has to offer. He threw amazing parties, built breathtaking buildings, amassed incredible wealth—and that’s just for starters. He denied himself nothing his eyes desired and refused his heart no pleasure. And what did he discover?
