CloseIt’s often said that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but it can also make it anxious. The apostle Paul certainly understood this feeling. He longed to reunite with his spiritual children in Thessalonica, but Satan repeatedly obstructed his path. Unable to visit in person, Paul sent Timothy to check on them and report back. And what a report it was! Paul was thrilled to hear that the believers were growing in their faith, enduring persecution, and gaining a godly reputation in the region. Paul’s constant prayers for them had been answered. He was so happy he exclaimed, “For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord” [8]. To “really live” means experiencing the joy of the Lord. Tomorrow, Paul will show us how we, too, can really live.
