Sermon: “Josiah: The Boy Who Became King” from Dan Mitchum

Dan Mitchum - September 1, 2024

Josiah: The Boy Who Became King

Josiah was just eight years old when he was crowned king of Judah. Usually, boys his age play, explore, laugh, and enjoy childhood pleasures. Not Josiah. He had the weight of the world placed upon his young shoulders. And his grandfather and father left him with horrific examples of what it meant to rule God’s people. Josiah’s grandfather, Manasseh, plunged the nation into idolatry. Josiah's father, Amon, was no better. But Josiah chose a much different path. 2 Kings 23:25 declares, "Never before had there been a king like Josiah, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and soul and strength, obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since.” This concludes our sermon series on “The Crown: Life Lessons from Israel’s Kings.” We’ve saved the best for last!

From Series: "The Crown"

We’ll spend August studying the lives of five of Israel’s kings. Their stories are fascinating and unforgettable. We’ll watch as Joash’s own grandmother attempts to assassinate him. We’ll see King Saul’s kingdom slip away simply for losing his patience. We’ll watch 80 courageous priests confront King Uzziah for defiling God’s Temple. We’ll learn why Manasseh was not only the wickedest king in Israel but in the whole world. And we’ll celebrate the coronation of eight-year-old Josiah—the only truly good king of the bunch. Whether good or bad, these kings pale in comparison to King Jesus, who we'll come back to week after week. God has much to teach us from each of them. Join us for this exciting and life-changing study of God’s Word.
