Sermon: “The Fall and Rise of King Manasseh” from Dan Mitchum

Dan Mitchum - August 25, 2024

The Fall and Rise of King Manasseh

What do Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, and Tiger Woods have in common? They’re all GOATs—that is, they’re the Greatest Of All Time. King Manasseh was a WOAT—the Worst Of All Time. The fifty-five-year reign of Manasseh was longer and eviler than any other king of Judah. He was way more wicked than his grandfather, the deplorable Ahaz. He sinned against the Lord in unspeakable ways. But after decades of despising God and His Word, Manasseh cried out to God in repentance. And God responded with grace and forgiveness. We’ll see yet again that God’s arm of mercy is long enough to save the worst of sinners like Manasseh—and us.

We’ll spend August studying the lives of five of Israel’s kings. Their stories are fascinating and unforgettable. We’ll watch as Joash’s own grandmother attempts to assassinate him. We’ll see King Saul’s kingdom slip away simply for losing his patience. We’ll watch 80 courageous priests confront King Uzziah for defiling God’s Temple. We’ll learn why Manasseh was not only the wickedest king in Israel but in the whole world. And we’ll celebrate the coronation of eight-year-old Josiah—the only truly good king of the bunch. Whether good or bad, these kings pale in comparison to King Jesus, who we'll come back to week after week. God has much to teach us from each of them. Join us for this exciting and life-changing study of God’s Word.
